This is hard lol. Part of me wants to go back in time, but to do what? Change things? Part of me wants to go to the future, but not sure why, it looks bleak right now.
But, I think it would be to go into the future, just not within my life time. The future of 2200 or 2500. Because hopefully the world will no longer be at odds.
G'day! I'm Ozzie. I have a simple exercise that I find quite useful in cognitive restructuring and thought I might share it here.
The process that I'm specifically going to talk about is defusion.
The goal of defusion techniques is to:
Help members look at thoughts rather than from thoughts
Help members notice thoughts rather than get caught up in thoughts
Help members learn to let thoughts come and go rather than holding on to them
This is called the Lemon, Lemon, Lemons exercise. This exercise involves three steps:
1. Ask the member to say a simple noun, such as “lemon” out loud once or twice, and notice what shows up psychologically – what thoughts, images, smells, tastes or memories come to mind.
2. Then, ask the member to repeat the word over and over out loud as fast as possible for approximately thirty seconds – until it becomes just a meaningless sound.
3. Next ask the member to pick an evocative judgement word that they use when they judge themselves harshly (e.g., idiot, fat, selfish, loser, etc.) and have them repeat the above two steps (e.g., ask them to notice what shows up psychologically when they say the word and then get them to repeat it rapidly for approximately thirty seconds and then reflect upon what shows up psychologically at that point.
Let me know if you have given it a go and what you think!!
