Cerebral Palsy

Hey everyone, my name is Marley. I’m 27. I have moderate Spastic Diplegia Cerebral Palsy. I often find myself feeling hopeless due to my physical limitations. I also suffer from anxiety and depression- but not always directly related to my CP. I want to work. I want to be a part of a community. I would absolutely love to study medicine and work in a hospital. But what kind of medial center would hire someone who needs equipment to walk? I struggle with these thoughts- that I could potentially never amount to anything because of how the world sees disabled people.

Just looking for some advice or support.

Thanks Friends~

@MarleyQuinn

Hey Marley

Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us.

I can actually relate with you a lot. My plan to study medicine got recently crushed by my chronic illness. You're not alone with the disappointment, the anger, the sadness and all the feelings and thoughts that come with being chronically ill. A lot of people with chronic illness have to go through all stages of grief again and again because we loose so many things on a daily basis.

But you know what? There's another side to the story. Having to deal with all of that makes us really strong and empathic people. My best doctors and therapists are the ones that had to struggle in their life themselves. My pain management doctor uses a cane btw. ;) We may need more breaks, mobility aids, medication or whatever, but we're still worthy and can thrive within our limitations. And let's be honest: Every human being has limitations. Some of ours might be more obvious but on the other hand we thrive where others struggle.

You will find your way. And if you ever need someone to talk, feel free to connect with one of our amazing listeners or join a group chat.

Take care
