Insomnia
Hi guys. I have Chronic Fatigue (among other things) and one of the worst symptoms (in my opinion, right now) is the insomnia.
I am so tired and I just can't get enough sleep anymore.
I should point out that for me enough sleep is about 9 and a half hours of actual sleep a night (worked out with the help of a fitness tracker which helps me manage my food, exercise and sleep).
For me that usually means at least 10 and a half hours in bed at night. But lately even spending up to 12 hours in bed at night I am struggling to get even 8 and a half hours. It's not enough and my health is starting to suffer.
It really worries me because I have been managing my CFS really well for the past couple of years. I am currently able to work two part time jobs that I really enjoy (usually only working 18 hours a week between them, spread out through the week) and I would be really upset if I find myself crashing out and unable to continue 😞
I have already had to give up so many things I used to enjoy because of this and I don't want to give it any more.
Anyway, just needed to vent and maybe talk to someone else in a similar position

Sleep was an enigma for me for so many years. When I was younger, I could tolerate it better. I guess once I hit 40, I became unable to function after losing a couple of nights of sleep & even had auditory hallucinations after a 3rd night. (They were just 'voice-like' sounds that didn't actually say anything.) It was a wake up call that I was no longer young. ;)
Is there anyplace you could get a sleep study? I've had a few over the past 10 years or so at a Teaching Hospital and it has given me some options. Albeit I do not suffer from Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, perhaps they can help you even a little.
Don't throw in the towel. Keep asking for questions from your doctors. If you don't get answers that 'fit', you are the 'customer', go elsewhere.
@JeffWM Thankyou for replying :)
I am lucky enough to have a doctor who actually cares and does try, even if he's baffled a lot of the time.
I have prescription sleeping tablets (Temazepam) but they are getting progressively less effective, even though I try to only use them when I'm really in need of sleep (which, as I said in my first post, is starting to feel like always...)
I might ask about a sleep study when I see him next, although I know from a friends experience that I will have to travel for it, which is annoying.
What did you find works for you?
