How would you cheer someone up if they were feeling down?

Hi everyone!

I have a question for you, feel free to share an experience or just think of what you might do if you ever encounter this!

How would you cheer up a friend or family member if they were feeling down about their disability? What have you done in that past that has lifted people's spirits? How has someone cheered you up in the past?

I'll start...

The thing that people do to cheer me up when I'm feeling down is to sit with a bowl of popcorn and just talk about it. There is something I love about talking to someone that helps make me feel better. I know this relates to a lot of you because 7 Cups it's all about that too!

I want to see what everyone else does too!

Hug , long conversation, cup of tea , tell him how he is strong , tell him a funny thing , I go with him to some place he like ,

Many things could I do to make him feel supported not isolated

Thank you for your post

I usually find that a lot of people just want to talk to someone... many times loneliness is a big part of why people are feeling down (aside from any other stuff going on) and if you can remedy loneliness, then they're in a better mood! (speaking from experience). And once they're in a better mood, other things get better more quickly (or at least seem less overwhelming). :D:D:D:D:D

Main thing is talk wiith them, let them rant and be utterly unjudgemental, let them have their pity party and then remind them of the good things in life :). But honestly I find someone just being frank with me and agreeing that it isn't fair, and that it doesn't make sense kinda comforting.

Let them talk about innaine stuff that has nothing to do with whats wrong, I often just want so desperatly to feel normal. Chatting about normal things like food shopping and cats brings me down to earth like nothing else.

Finally just be there, and make that clear. Sometimes I just don't wanna talk I want to wallow. But let me know you don't mind and have time for me and eventually I'll talk. Make time to spend with them and ask what they want to do, they may just say they want time alone, but just making that time is enough to make it clear you care.

I love this question, and I'm so glad that it got bumped! I think helping someone with a disability can be super helpful, such as if they have a physical disability, you can offer to carry their books for them. If they have a mental disability and don't have many friends, you can sit with them when they're lonely at an event smiley
