25, autistic and still single
Hi
I am 25 years and female, and I have autism as well as a host of mental health issues including anxiety, social anxiety, complex ptsd and depression. I am in therapy and have been for the past 4 years and I have improved a lot in many areas however I am still struggling with the social side of things. I desperately want to have friends and get married however it is very hard for me as I still have work to do to improve socially as well as increase my self esteem. I have tried dating sites however did not feel good enough for anyone and it causes a lot of anxiety the idea of actually getting married. I don’t have familial support as they refuse to believe my diagnosis from when I was a child. I am just worried about time going by, I will be 26 in a few months and I just feel like I haven’t gone anywhere in my life as other people have around me. Therapy is helping but it just takes time to get better, I don’t know what to do. I want my family/relatives to stop asking me when I will get married. In my culture 25 is pretty much old to be still single.
@rationalFan3787 Hello! How are you doing? 😊 I am sorry to hear that you are going through a tough time right now. I can imagine it's not easy to not have your family's support through everything you are going through. I understand how hard it can be to make friends as an adult! Have you tried asking anyone at work or school to hang out or maybe get a cup of coffee? Meeting people and hanging out doesn't have to be a big event! I also want you to know that there's no rush to getting married. I know there's probably some pressure you are facing, but so many people are getting married older and older in today's world. You have to do things at your own pace, but I know it can be hard when you see everyone else doing things differently. I want you to know that we are always here for you and you can reach out to a Listener at any time! I hope this helps! :)
