People who are coping with disabilities can face a variety of challenges in doing tasks throughout their day. For example, people with physical-related disabilities may experience challenges related to getting out in the community on their own, depending on what types of supports are available; people with vision-related disabilities may experience challenges related to meal preparation, etc.

Do you have any challenges which you find you would like to overcome, or find solutions or remedies for, regarding performing productive tasks in your day? What are they? Can you think of any particular ways that your challenges in daily living can be helped?

Example: Are there any modifications that you can make to doing things? Are there any helpful coping methods you can use, to improve things? Are there any specialists or professionals who can offer to you, some guidance?

This is a post to have an open discussion on peoples' various challenges. Feel free to share yours here!

I have a hearing disability and wear hearing aids, but still have quite a lot of trouble understanding. I cannot function well in a noisy room. So it's been hard doing social events. I am more isolated than I would like, and need to reach out to do one-on-one engagements. I hike, so getting hiking buddies is good. I have a dog, so the dog park is also good. I like to read, so next time I go to the library, I may try to strike up a conversation. I'd REALLY like to join a Game Night, but the room noise just won't allow...

It sounds like you are very self-aware and looking at ways to move forward within your limitations. I wonder if you would enjoy a book club? Many book stores have them. I have never done one, but I am thinking about it. I may take a yoga class too. Maybe the library has some special events or classes?

Thank you for sharing the challenges which you are facing, in coping with a disability, in your everyday life. It sounds like you are facing a hearing disability, and are wearing hearing aids, but are still experiencing some trouble in understanding things, and are finding it to be an obstacle to function well, in a noisy room.

It also sounds like you are wanting to participate in more social-type activities, and I hope that you are able to find ones which will be suitable for you, in your particular situation. I am glad to hear that you are going out hiking, and are looking to find some people to join you, in this specific healthy endeavour. It sounds like getting out to the dog park is a good activity for you to do, as well. Perhaps you can try to connect with some other people there, if you prefer.

Regarding the library, I think that the suggestion given above, of thinking about participating in a book club, can be a viable idea. Therein, you would be able to connect with people over the shared experience of discussing various books. You had mentioned that you wanted to strike up a conversation at the library. I also go to the public library, and some people prefer to have conversations with the library staff, who have a good knowledge of the various library materials, within the library environment. Whenever I go to the library, the staff members are usually friendly, and willing to help out with any information.

Is there a way that you can effectively participate in a Game Night, at your own pace? Would you be able to have some sort of a modification, such as not attending for the whole night, but perhaps for a specific portion of the game night, or something of this sort? Finally, have you ever connected with other people coping with the same hearing disability, as yourself? Could they perhaps offer to you, any suggestions, on how to cope with being in a noisy room?

It sounds like you are definitely on the right track, towards finding positive ways to cope with living with your disability.

I find that since fatigue is one of my issues that I can take a big project and break it into smaller steps and do only 15 minutes at a time and take more breaks. I also use automation as much as I can; I have a robot vacuum, for example. If I need to, I buy paper plates when I am doing poorly or get foods that take no cooking or very little cooking. For me, my diet can be a great way to improve my health, so I focus a lot onsettings I can do to get some improvement.
