Has anyone else been too depressed to apply for disability? Any solutions?

I live in Canada and I definitely fall under the category of disabled because of depression. I have a hard time caring for myself and sometimes forgo eating or drinking for over 24hrs because I just don't feel like it. I can rarely enjoy anything and rarely bother to try. I have tried to work but I sometimes can't even get out of bed. I quit my job because I didn't want to burden the people who would have to fill in for me and because I didn't want to be fired for not showing up. I have been declining for years and it has only recently leveled out. I have the odd good day but they are few and far between. I have frequent thoughts of suicide but luckily I have never gone that far.
Every time I try to apply for some kind of income assistance I just get overwhelmed by how much work it is. I don't really feel like I'm worth it most of the time so it's a little difficult to fill in forms proving that I deserve benefit. It's such a complicated process and there is no easy way to find out if I'm even elligable. There are people you can call to help but my anxiety always stops me. I wish there was some answer to my problem.

@MoonOrchid I had similar issues in the US. Also, I didn't want to be a burden on the governement and did all I could to keep myself from having to rely on public assistance *for an EXTREMELY long time*, way past when I should have (easily at least a decade). I recentlly got denied for public assistance, and I feel like it was beacuse I was able to get all my ducks in a row to apply for it.
You are damned if you do, and damned if you don't. If you can't complete your application, no one will give you the time of day. And if you can, it's proof you don't need assistance.
You are in a tough spot, and no mistake. I wish I could give you better information or news, but I can't. I can let you know, though, that you are far from alone. There are lots of us out here. I hope that makes you feel in good company, at least. <3
