What is Dysgraphia?

Dysgraphia can be language based or non-language based disorder.

Symptoms

Writing that is too unclear to read

Inconsistencies when writing

Write their letters in reverse

Have trouble recalling how letters are formed

Struggling to know when to use lower or upper case letters

Struggle to form written sentences with correct grammar and punctuation

Incorrect verb and pronoun usage

Unfinished words or letters, forgetting words

Inconsistent position of letters on the page with respect to lines and margins

Inconsistent spaces between words and letters

Cramped or unusual grip of pen when writing

Talking to self whilst writing or carefully watching the hand that is writing

Slow copying or writing speed

Difficulty organising thoughts on paper

Accommodate by providing alternatives to written expression

Modify by changing expectations or tasks to minimize or avoid the area of weakness

Help provide instruction for improving handwriting and writing skills.
