Fibromyalgia

August 9th, 2016

Most people think it's a stupid decision but the only pain meds I'm on is prescription that I only take when the pain gets overwhelming typically less than one a day. The meds that were on offer for me are both highly addictive and I have issues with addiction so I don't want to risk it. However it seems some around me, mostly my parents, believe that means I have no right to complain about pain. Usually I don't, apparently I have a high pain tolerance, and sometimes it's just me simply saying "ugh the pain is rough today" I've learned not to say this around my mother, she ends up making me feel bad. My roommate has some hip and back issues so she gets it and understands the passing term to just be hey I'm hurting today and let's it be. But really she's the only one I ever talk to about it. Is there anyone out there similarly to this?

@SuperWhoLock1988 Go you for dealing with the pain and being strong enough to minimalize your medication use. Not a lot of people who struggle with addiction can do that. I tend to dislike it when people say the words, "You have no right to complain." Everyone complains, sometimes we need to for a release. I understand how your parents say that, but they probably say it out of worry and may not fully understand the effect their comments have on you. Short story short, I personally don't believe that you should feel bad or guilty for sharing how you feel. You're enduring a lot of pain and it's okay to feel and want to share a comment or two on your pain. Stay strong!

@EleNergy thank you. Allowing myself to feel is a struggle for me but I'm learning to remember that I'm important too.
