Do I actually have an Anorexia Nervosa?
Friends,
Lately I've been thinking about this a lot. It's been happening for a month now. I hardly eat, if I do it's one thing a day. I am working out constantly to try and get skinnier. I'm a small 5"4 female that ways about [edited by Anomalia to remove weight specifics]lbs. In my mind I know I'm not fat. But especially tonight looking in the mirror I just can't even look at myself. It makes me want to lose more weight. My boyfriend has to beg me daily to eat something or "remind" me to eat. My friend posted a photo of him and I together and I thought I looked okay, that night my mom called me saying I looked unhealthy and if I was alright. I have no clue what to do and I just really would like to hear from people with actual history. Am I making all this up in my head, how do I fix it? Thank you for your support,
J
I've helped people with anorexia before - does that count? I think if the question is even on your mind in this way, you ought to consider seeking a professional diagnosis. It does sound like there's enough going on to be genuinely concerned about.
The most important thing is not your weight or how you look, it is just being healthy. I'm glad your boyfriend and others are looking after your welfare. Just remember that you matter and it's worth checking things out and, if there is a problem, nipping it in the bud - the longer it takes to be treated, the more unnecessary suffering you might endure and the harder recovery would be. And if there isn't a problem, that would also be worth knowing. So getting a professional opinion sounds like a win-win proposition!
@Dawntlessdog - I think Squib is right - while we can't tell you what is and isn't the right weight for you, I've found that when people who love you start to worry, there's usually a reason, and it sounds like it might be time to talk to a doctor and figure this all out. Eating disorders are really insidious because a bit part of the reason they work is the disordered voice convinces you that it's all normal, even if a year ago, you would look at the same thing and know that it isn't.
If you ever need to talk through it all, you can always reach out to me or to another listener - we're here to support you!

I understand totally. I have all anorexic symptoms expext im not under my weight range, so technically I dont have "Anorexia Nervosa" but Atypical Anorexia which falls under the category of EDNOS. I dont know if that helps answer your question but it is worth a shot!
