So I've thought of myself as fat and ugly for as long as I can remember. I'm 13, a girl, 5'9 and 130 pounds. I hate myself for being so far and I count calories and I eat around [edited for calorie specifics/triggers by forum mentor] a day. I really need help I don't know what to do.

First of all, accept yourself before anything else. Secondly, there's this saying i had red in twitter. its says "there's no ugly women in the world, there's only the lazy ones" something like that. In ever females a beauty inside of us, we just need to show it if it was hidden. There this trend in youtube if u saw it. Where they show their hideous faces then they will suddenly transform into beautiful/handsome. So if ur asking for a help, no one will ever help use but yourself. Never wait for someone to make a change, you change it cuz you know that you will never betray urself since its YOURS. All u need to get up and make a change in your daily routine. Search on google and go on a diet, start going to the gym, find a hobby and find the thing you feel happy while doing it. And im no time, you will see alot of different and a good change in yourself before knowing it. Be yourself and challenge it

Let's look at it like something you can solve, at first, which is true.

So:

1. I can firstly recommend you focusing on your weight.
- goto thenutritionist, tell the problem and get the diet that might help you, with or without your parents, never mind; they know all about food and calories and stuff and you can inform better there also.
- exercise, but don't force yourself, exercise when you feel to do it, and if it hurts stop what you started, and start another one;

and then, day by day, you'll become thinner. but, the right thing is that you accept the problem and you want and you're searching for help which is a great thing.

2. When you finish with your weight and become thinner, you can focus on your looks and self-esteem
-
try first with caring about yourself. you, or anyone on this world can't look good enough if they don't look after their hygiene. try to have some morning routine; for example, i wash my face with something for it, always brush my teeth ofc, iput on some creams for my skin that will make it softer etc.
-at first, you can try with wearing make-up, and then week by week, make up less than you made-up previous week; that's also what i did.
- when i, myself, had problems with self-esteem people around me supported me. let yourself being freer than you was. do something that you never did before.
- after all of this, you'll see that it's absolutely not about the looks; it's about how self-confident you are. i can somedaysnot look very nice, but never mind, i love myself anyway. learn to love yourself(with some online courses, here practice on self-help guide, talk to your parents, maybe you can try visiting psychologist to get some advices), and i think then you'll think you're beautiful. at least it's like that for me.
- you are born the way you are born, and you can't change it. you can only love or hate yourself. and it's absolutely your choice, and for both loving and hating yourself you need a process.
- who are you comparing yourself to ? some b**ches from your school, idk ? stop!!! find their bad sides and you'll see nobody's really that beautiful as you think they are.

and for the end... MY INBOX IS ALWAYS OPEN FOR YOU :)!!!

@Broken13 - first of all, I'm so sorry that you're struggling so much right now with self image and eating. It can be so hard in this day and age to be content with your body, when all of society has unrealistic expectations and the pressures you see day to day reinforce them. That said, it sounds like you are recognizing that what you're currently doing isn't healthy and that you need some help. And being honest about that and reaching out here is an enormous first step that takes a lot of courage and strength.

In terms of getting help, do you feel you have a support system in place that you can talk to about what's going on? This could be your family, friends, teachers, counselors, etc., but I think that one of the biggest parts of recovery is having other people there to lean on when you need them. Have you talked to anyone about how you're feeling before? Even if it's an anonymous listener on here, I think talking openly and honestly about it will help enormously and understanding where you're at and thinking through ways to start working towards recovery.

As for specifics about how to help with an eating disorder, different things are helpful for different people and to some extent you have to try things and figure out what's helpful. But some pretty universal things are a) building a support network and being honest with them, as said before, b) being kind and forgiving with yourself and allowing yourself to feel what you're feeling and not berating yourself for it, and c) remembering that it's a process. There's no one thing that you can do to immediately feel better about yourself, feel comfortable eating a healthy amount, etc., but you can get there. It's about taking small steps, trying and trying and putting the work in, and letting yourself get there.

I strongly encourage you to reach out and start working on this now, as it's a really dangerous path to head down and only gets harder to dig your way out of.

And also to remember, you are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think. You can do this, and we will be here to support you in any way we can. Take care, sweetie, and let me know if I can help.

I am so sad to hear that you feel fat and ugly. It worries me that at 13 you are counting calories. I encourage you to reach out for help now- maybe that's your parents or siblings, someone at school or church, or even a doctor. I know it can be scary to reach out but I hope you do so that you can get the support you need. For now, if you can, try to focus on eating a balanced meal (fruits, veggies, grain, dairy, and protein) rather than the number of calories you are eating. Also, listen to your body, listen for cues that help you know when you are hungry and try to honor that feeling and fuel your body.
