Mom Won't Stop

I just found out I have anorexia. I'm always worrying about calories and I'm scared of high calorie foods like nuts, avocados, etc. I wouldn't even eat a banana! I was only eating [edited for calorie specifics / triggers by forum mentor] cal. a day. I was working out about 3 times a day 7 times a week. I'm trying to get to normal and recover, but now my mom is stuffing me with junk food! I want to try and get over my fear of food, but whenever I eat junk, I feel guilty and sad and mad at myself for the rest of the day. I try to explain to her that if i eat healthy I can recover faster and easier, but she won't listen! I'm also scared that i'll turn fat if she keeps stuffing me with junk! Does anyone else have this problem? I know she is just nervous, but how can i make her stop?

Hey ☺ hello there!

First of all I'd like to thank you for your post so others can read and learn from your experience You have already taken a huge step in dealing your with condition, and i would like to actually congratulate you for that, and also showing the courage to share with us hear, so well done, and thank you.

It's quite possible that your mom is very worried and concerned about you, unfortunately, that's what us parents do! now, on occasions we are wrong too, and dont have all the answers, but the concerns we show are genuine and come from a good place!

I would suggest that your mom doesn't quite understand the affects of your illness, and may need educating so she has a better understanding and is able to extend her emotional support upwards you . Is it possible for you to pick up some leaflets for her to read? Or possibly go to a doctor's appointment with you?

There are ways in which parents are able to help and support and sometimes they need a little push in the right direction.

I wish you the very best in your recovery process.

Best wishes

Hey there, I've moved this thread to the anorexia forum as it seems more aligned there. I think ProfessionalPerspective's suggestion is a really good one! It sounds like your mom is struggling to understand what you need and how her actions are affecting you, so having her come along or hearing from a doctor or therapist might be really helpful.

And if you ever need to chat about it, feel free to reach out! Take care and be safe.
