BED and Vyvanse
Hi everyone,
Im 27 years old and have struggled with BED for about 10 years. Last year I was put on Vyvanse but eventually it got out of control because I became addicted. I took 2-3x my daily dosage (50mg) and would crash into major depressive episodes when I ran out.
I quit Vyvanse 9 months ago, realizing it was controlling my life. Fast forward to now and Ive gotten a new psychiatrist and therapist. Ive finally addressed my major underlying issue, depression. Im feeling great but my binge eating has come back. Ive tried every off-label med for it but none have worked out. My new doc wants to put me back on Vyvanse at a very low dose. Shes aware of my addiction last time and why I quit. Im worried I will become addicted again but also recognize that Im no longer depressed like last time and have the support of a weekly therapist.
Anyone have any experience using Vyvanse for BED? What are your thoughts?
i used to be diagnosed with BED and at that time was put on vyvanse also, i didn't feel that it wore off at all, but for me it got to where i had lost my appetite all together, still haven't really gotten it back. but now its several days are restriction vs bingeing and also affecting appetite i have another illness that causes nausea alot of the time that started in the past year, ive been off the med in the past year n half.
I was on Ritalin and got addicted too.
Wellbutrin was incredible for stopping BED but made me angry.
I try to manipulate my dopamine and norepinephrine levels now. I do this in two ways. High doses of quality fish oil (usually 5 grams per day). Also I supplement L Tyrosine at 1 or 2 grams daily.
When I run out of tyrosine I just put raw cocoa powder in my morning decaf coffee as raw cocoa powder has l tyrosine in it.
Supplementing these daily, I swear, has controlled my binge eating 100%. I don't even get tempted. However, of I miss a dose more than 2 days, I immediately want to binge.
Since these options are so simple and cheap, they are incredible for me without the effects of prescription meds.
I have noticed also that l tyrosine or raw cocoa supplemented/tyrosine regularly results in more rapid fat loss and fat comes Off of stubborn areas it never comes Off without it. I assume this is due to to the higher amount of norepinephrine it helps the body release. A not necessarily wanted side effect but welcome as well.
I urge you to try this combo. It really helped me, and my mom started using it and her cravings for binging on cigarettes has largely reduced. Seems the higher dopamine and norepinephrine helps with addictive behavior control.
