Binge eating

Hi, Im Isabelle and Im 17. For a few years now Ive had problems with eating. When I was around 14 or 15, I started obsessively dieting and ended up developing bulimia so my mom brought me to a therapist to help me work through it. I tried to develop a healthier mindset with eating but now I constantly binge eat and its starting to affect my health and self esteem. I hate going to social events or even meeting up with my friends makes me anxious because I feel disgusted with myself. Does anyone have any advice for working through this?

@isabellemc671 If you still purge, you should try stop doing that. After that, try to plan your meals. Don't do like me and count calories, bc that's a spiral without end, but plan your breakfast, your lunch and your dinner. If you wanna snack in between plan that too.

Always have healthy stuff in the fridge that you can snack on, like carrots just ready to being eaten (doesn't work if you have to peel it before eating). Have other healthy stuff to snack on (cucumber, fruit, nuts whatever), so you don't choose chips/crisps or whatever, bc it's easier. You have to make it easy for yourself to eat healthy.

I don't know if you still live with your parents or not, but if you don't a good step is not having sweets and stuff like that in the house. Don't buy it, don't have it in the house. Helps a long way. Other than that you can maybe try to, if you do live at home, not buying the stuff you binge on, and telling your mom that she shouldn't buy that for you either. Telling yourself that sweets and stuff aren't yours can help you to not eat it, bc it's not yours to eat.

I have other advice, but I don't wanna give it, bc it's very restrictive, and I don't want you to become anorexic or anything.

Can I ask what triggers the binging?

Hope you are well, beside those problems! heart

@EvilRegalsReadToo

Thanks for your advice, I think it would help to have healthier alternatives ready to go. Usually I binge when Im left home alone or sometimes if Im stressed. Its more of a habit than anything else at this point but its having a bad impact on my life.

@isabellemc671 Hi again, always here to help! heart

But I do think if you have some healthier alternatives it might help. Most ppl who binge does it when alone, bc they see it as shameful, so that makes sense. How to help that I'm not sure, but maybe... do you binge, if you feel full?

Binging while stressed can be helped, in my experience, by working out. When I'm stressed I wanna eat too, but if I go out the door for a walk or a bikeride. That helps me "burn" the stress, and makes me a little tired and feeling more relaxed. I don't know if it can help you, but it do help me smiley
