Do I have this or do I think I have this?
Hey all!
im super New on here so I have noooo idea what to do or expect aha
Basically, I don't really know if I have a BED. I can control my eating some days (like one or two every couple of months) when I try to be healthy again but can never be consistent with it. It's not even a point of wanting to be skinny anymore, I just want to be healthy. So many bad health related issues run in my family and it's just crazy to think that I could get hit with it all so young. I binge everyday even when I'm not hungry. I'll eat when I'm bored, when I'm doing stuff, while I'm working, right after already eating a meal. It's just constant and all the time. I've gained so much weight because of it and just feel like I lack so much control.
Everything in my life just seems to blow up sometimes. I had sort-of relationships with people that effected how I see myself and have brought me down emotionally. I tend to comfort eat a lot but I'm not sure at what point comfort eating becomes BED. I guess I'm just scared I'm diagnosing myself with something I don't have? I'm not sure.
Ive also gained so much weight recently and it's gotten to the point that i don't really look at my body/try not to. I don't know who I am anymore and I just feel like I'm not in control of myself anymore.

Hey there! Welcome to 7 Cups of tea! Glad you decided to join in and seek the support you most need and deserve.
I hear you, so you speculate that you may have BED but you find that you're able to control your eating at times. I understand your desire to be healthy, and how it's come to a point where things are getting hard for you. I'm sorry to hear that so many health related issues run in your family, that probably spikes a bit more concern about wanting to get healthy. Sounds like you're struggling with controlling your eating, and that it's become consistent for you to eat constantly.
Given your situation, you've shown a lot of courage and strength by opening up about relationships that have had an emotionally draining effect on you. It seems like you're trying to understand when does "Eating disorder behaviors" become an actual "Eating disorder". Though self-diagnoses may be harmful, it's understandable why you'd be wanting to put a label to your situation, it makes the recovery process a lot clearer when you know what you're trying to recover from.
I am not a medical professional to be giving you a diagnoses, but it does sound like you're struggling, and I just want you to know every struggle is justified and valid whether you have, or don't have a diagnoses. what are your thoughts on reaching out for professional support? and do you think consuming food has become a coping strategy for you in anyway?
I have added a few links for you if you'd like to check them out!

I'm sorry you're feeling so frustrated, DC. I can relate with binge eating disorders, and the best way I've found to keep it in check is through meal trackers and through BMI. Focus on eating healthy and attending counseling or support groups like OA. Its about renewing a healthy relationship with food. Blessings!!

Hello There,
I'm new to this website as well. In fact this is my first post/response. I came across this and can relate so much so that I felt I would let you know someone else out here in this world is facing the same challenge as yourself. I too find myself eating senslessly to the point that I feel sick/full to capacity. I once lost 260 pounds, but unfortunately I let my emotions get the best of me and gained it all back, honestly once I started dating and had my heart broken a couple of times, I regressed back to my old habits.. As cliche' as it sounds, at least you realize that there is an issue, the first step is recognizing that there is a problem. The second step would be to work on a solution to deter that behavior, and maybe figure out exactly why you do what you do.. I'm currently on step 2, but having some issues with my follow through at this point. If I make any headway in the upcoming future, I'll be sure to fill you in.
Good Luck & Warm Regards,
-Mike

Thank's for sharing Mike! I recently found that I have had a similar problem myself. I lost a lot of weight eating healthy when I was in a relatioship, and then gained it back when the relationship ended and I began binging again. The first step for me is recognizing what I am doing, and now I am also in the process of figuring out how to move forward in a productive manner.
I hope you all are doing well! Thank all for opening up here about your lives. It's nice to read some things that are relateable.
Best,
S
