Just getting my thoughts out
I'm new here.
Some context before I start talking about my binge eating disorder. I think my issues (with eating in particular) started in late 2021. I remember this specifically because I wouldn't eat my birthday cake, but than proceeded to binge eat it afterwards.
Basically, up until that point, my parents had always been verbally abusive, but never about my physical appearance. However, they really started grating about my appearance when I started having acne breakouts, which runs in the family and it gets worse when I eat inflammatory foods. Prior to them criticizing it, I hadn't really been bothered by it - most teens have acne, right?
But after they pointed it out, I started becoming really self conscious about it and started restricting my diet. Which worked well until it didn't. I started binge eating whenever I was away from my parents.
So fast forward to now. I got medication for my acne, so it's slowly improving, but that's not my focus here. I have a binge eating disorder that basically takes up my whole mind. On the outside, you wouldn't notice anything, but my mental health has been deteriorating and I'm having trouble fitting in my pants, which just serves as a reminder of my disorder, which just makes me feel worse.
My parents and I got in a fight today after they caught me binge eating. I don't know what to do anymore, and I'd like to be pointed in the right direction. (My parents self proclaimed help consists of verbally throwing names at me and making me feel like *** about eating - like I should starve myself or something.) I've tried to make a change (it's the beginning of 2023!) but I can't get rid of the habit.

Binge anything eating... drinking etc....tends to be .........IMO something we have control of. Not sure if that is something you are dealing with.
i used to binge eat ...... when i was Mad ............ it made zero sense later.... but at the time seemed ok ......when i thought about it because it was SELF destructive to me................ and really had no effect on the person or people i was upset with......
Parents often do not have a clue how to help a teen and often think shame is effective tool but it is NOT. They must believe as many teens are self centered the names etc will spur you into changing.
If you want to change ...... try to identify what it is that you get out of it ????......i never found a good reason other then if i ate ALL the cereal my siblings did not get any..... but that was not really a rewarding feeling
what does it cost you???? .. mine was weight gain and self loathing.
