Overwhelmed
hello i’m new here and i feel very lost and alone. i lost 50 ibs in 2020 but since i started working full time in october i’ve gained it all back and i’m feeling really motivated atm but also i feel like “today is the day!” like every morning then ruin it by binging on 1000s of calories at night.... my bf and i literally only fight about me binging and i feel so alone because i don’t have any friends and i can’t talk about this stuff with my bf because he’s amazing and loves me no matter what but can’t offer me the support that i need. i’m so ashamed of my feelings as well because so many people are doing more than me. all i want is to follow my diet, keep a clean house, do some schooling and work 40hrs a week which is like super normal stuff everyone seems to be able to do no problem but i can barely do 1 and it’s frustrating because before i was working this much i was like on top of the world accomplishing so many goals idk thanks for listening if you made it though me complaining this much... id love it if you messaged me if any of this is relatable for you or you have any advice love you guys stay safe💕
@BingeBunnie I have a problem with nightly eating too, but I will come to that. But you need to stop thinking: "Bc everybody else can I should be able to too!" - bc that's not true. Some ppl have more surplus every day. Some ppl have less. If you have less that's ok too. I myself have depression, schizophrenia and anxiety amongst others (and an ED). And I have had to learn to live with the fact that I can't do what everybody else can. Some things I can do just as good, something less and something better! It's all about your surplus, diagnoses and other relevant stuff.
But back to the nightly eating: I have had a problem with nightly eating for a while now. Or since I moved into my own apartment. There is a few reasons for that: I'm all alone and nobody is watching me, nobody cares if I eat everything in the fridge (expect myself ofc) and I eat too few calories every day.
As long as I eat as little as I do through the day I'm sure I will keep having this problem (I stick to roughly 500 calories a day and then some calories added from the nightly eating). My biggest problem is that I will wake up in the morning, before I have to get up, and just eat whatever, mostly half asleep, which just makes it even harder. I have gotten used to not having sweets in the house at all, so my binges won't be as bad.
I cut carrots and cucumber for my nightly snacking now, so I will eat that and not everything else. But I have begun eating ryebread through the night, and I have made a deal with myself that all my ryebread is in the freezer, and when I need to eat it through the day I take it out of the freezer and microwave it. That stopped that problem, bc I can't function enough to microwave ryebread in the middle of the night. Until I find something new of course.
But I THINK it's kinda a sign, when I eat at 5-6-7-8 in the morning, that I should actually get out of the bed and get me some breakfast instead. I am currently trying that out instead of eating weird stuff in the morning/night.
That's what I can say about the topic. If you have any questions or something just post an answer, and I will look at it when I can!
And sorry for such a long answer xD

I really like this answer a lot and has given me insight too on what I can do to stop my binges. I feel like people don't give much credit to how much our environment plays into our bad habits. Love the idea about freezing the bread. For any sweets that are in my house, I put them in a place that requires me to step on a stool to reach. Probably not quite the same thing, but I usually don't want to deal with stepping on a stool to reach sweets so it helps me to eat less of them.
That's a good idea. I've tried putting them where I need a stool and it sounds lame but it's actually too much work to get a stool to get them most of the time so I don't eat them as often.
Hey I hear your struggle! Sticking to it be really difficult. You don't need to draw comparsions to what others are able to handle. Everyone has a different level of spoons for each day and week. There is no shame in having your own limits. If you need someone to talk about this with, I can be an ear as well.
@CatCommander I LOVE the spoon metaphore! Just wanted you to know!

Pretty much what I had to say would be a repeat of what everyone has said, which I agree with. I would, however, add that those people that you see functioning well balancing all the things in their lives, are likely not as on top of things as you might think. It's hard to see people who are so successful as people just like us. Everyone falls off the wagon. It's just important to get back on. Some people will fall off more times than others and that is ok! And sometimes people just burn out after juggling a lot of things in their lives. It seems like an ideal that we should all strive for, but in reality, a lot of the time its not good for us, especially when the things we juggle don't add anything meaningful to our lives. So I would say, if you find yourself not being able to do all the things, then perhaps try narrowing your focus to the things that are the most meaningful to you, the most important, or the things that would advance your personal goals. Do few things and do them well. Even if you only accomplished one thing today, if it somehow brought you 1% closer to what you want out of your life, then you have already won :)
That's really an uplifting way to think about things.
