Struggling connecting with others with BED

I've probably had binge eating disorder since I was a kid, and it took up until last year (@ 20years old) for me to put a name to it. It's super hard for me to discuss the bingeing & subsequent body image problems & fears of eating that all come along with it. I don't know anyone else who shares these struggles of BED, and the majority of people I know are so deeply programmed with fat shaming and food shaming as a default that I feel severely uncomfortable at the mere mention of body image or eating.

I feel like I would benefit a lot from being able to open up to people who have encountered similar experiences as me. I can't trust many people on talking about my longtime eating and body problems, and even the ones I have opened up to, I still struggle with too much guilt talking to people with normative eating and/or skinnier bodies. It sucks and it's illogical, but it's where I'm at right now after being alone and feeling like this was all my fault for years.

If anyone would be willing to let me talk about my experiences regarding BED, and perhaps offer some personal insight, I would greatly appreciate it <3

@shadowmisfit - my experience has been a bit different from yours, but I would be happy to talk to you about what you're going through and share anything from my story that would help.

I struggled with an eating disorder for about 10 years and it morphed over time in several stages, from restricting, to binging and purging, to just binging, before finally normalizing my eating for the most part. I can definitely understand how it can be hard to talk about BED with people who haven't necessarily been there, but I really think that all eating disorders are just different sides of the same coin (or dice, since coins can only have two sides...). At the support group I used to go to, there would be people of every size and diagnosis, but we always found each other really nodding along and relating to what everyone was saying because so much of it comes from the same place.

At any rate, there may be someone on here who would be better suited or would make you more comfortable, but if not, I am always happy to talk. Take care!
