Uncontrollable binge eating- how do I stop?

Hello. I'm pretty new to this site so forgive me if I'm not exactly doing this forum thing right. I've struggled with depression for most of my life and never really had a healthy relationship with food. My weight has fluctuated but I've never been overweight or underweight. Recently I've started binge eating more so than I ever have. I'll go out and buy family size bags of chips, half a dozen chocolate bars at a time, a bunch of other things, and just eat them all in my room at one time. And I do this every day.

I'm worried because I feel like I can't stop. After I do this I always feel guilty and ashamed and disgusting and then the next day it's like I'm on autopilot, I go out and do it again. It comforts me and in a crazy way I feel good because it's like I'm punishing myself. Like I'm affirming the fact that I'm horrible and disgusting. If anyone out there has been through this, please tell me how you get through it and get it under control. Thank you.

Hello, I want to honor you for sharing this with us. A lot of people struggle with binges and don't know how to get control of the situation. Have you considered seeking professional advice? Sometimes, we need new strategies that experts can help us develop and these can make a tremendous difference in the quality of our life!:).. we are strong but don't have to do things alone all the time. :) I wish you the best :)

@theycallmemellowyellow I'm going through the same thing, but the worst mistake I ever made was feeling guilty or disgusted by myself. NEVER, and I repeat, NEVER blame yourself for binging. It's the way your body and your mind deal with stress. Try looking for the triggers and reasons you binge. I mostly do it when I have an anxiety attack at school, so after school I go to the store and spend all my money on whatever is salty enough to numb my tongue, and of course chocolate to leave me satisfied. It's wrong to it like that and destroy your body, but feeling guilty only makes you binge even more!

Hi Sweetie, I'm sorry you are experiencing this situation. Have you considered perhaps staying away from the "temptation"? Sugary treats may be the culprit? Sugar may be making you experience a feeling that you want to feel and may make you loose control? It works for some people, perhaps you want to try? :) good luck, take care!
