How does healthy weight management differ from bulimia?
On internet i found those symptoms of bulimia:
Bulimia signs and symptoms may include:
- Being preoccupied with your body shape and weight
- Living in fear of gaining weight
- Repeated episodes of eating abnormally large amounts of food in one sitting
- Feeling a loss of control during bingeing — like you can't stop eating or can't control what you eat
- Forcing yourself to vomit or exercising too much to keep from gaining weight after bingeing
- Using laxatives, diuretics or enemas after eating when they're not needed
- Fasting, restricting calories or avoiding certain foods between binges
- Using dietary supplements or herbal products excessively for weight loss
So, as i try to manage my weight, i found self in almost all of above mentioned symptoms:
- i am weighting self almost daily as my parents and brother are very upset with how much i weigh (i have to eat less and less to lose weight)
- i am living in constant fear of gaining weight and after i get some kg after 4 days in spa, i get naughty comments from my parents how obese i am. I had 68 kg before i went to spa and now (1 week later) i have got 72 kg. I am 1,71 m tall. Furthermore, I can gain 2 kg by eating just 600 g of sweets in 2 weeks.
- ok, i got very much of food served in hotel (spa), and i thought that it is normal, as also others got this quantity of food. But normally i don't eat very much, despite my parents say that i overeat constantly. But otherwise i feel hungry all the time and i even get headaches due to hunger.
- if i really overeat, then something is wrong with the hormone which tells me that i am fed up.
- i force self to overexercise. I even got burned out due to it with very limited success - weight stayed the same regardless how much i exercised.
- laxatives and diuretics i don't use
- i restrict calories all the time. Whenever a celebration or a vacation comes, kg skyrocket.
- i don't use dietary supplements for weight loss.
So, many symptoms of bulimia here, but i just wish to maintain healthy weight. I weighted self today evening and i had 75 kg (i had 71 kg in the morning - i don't know how it is possible to gain 4 kg in just one day).
@CheerySandi I am not an expert, but it's my understanding that healthy weight management does not involve fear, and that is the primary way it differs from bulimia. It sounds like your family are really making a big issue out of your weight, and that makes it very difficult for you manage.
I hope maybe you've been able to find a listener here you can chat to about the whole situation in detail, so that you can feel better about it all.

@CheerySandi I have a few things to say. To begin with: Weighing 74 kg is NOT overweight for your height of 171 cm. I weigh waaaay more than you and I am only 4 to 5 cm taller than you. So you are not fat. You are not overweight.
Second: Your parents are assholes! They shouldn't tell you to eat more or less or call you fat, they should just let you be!
Third; The difference between what you are experiencing is two things. 1) You do not throw up, and 2) You are afraid of gaining weight. Fear should never be a part of a healthy weightloss process. So there you have it. I hope you can use it for something ❤️
