Is it worth seeking help?
I'm wondering about whether or not to go to the GP about my disordered eating. I *think* i have bulimia but I'm worried it's not severe enough to warrant treatment. I tend to eat bare minimum calories most of the time, but then I'll binge and purge. I use excessive amounts of laxatives and use them everyday. I'm a normal weight for my height. I'm exhausted, my menstrual cycle has become irregular and my chest is in pain some of the time. I hate myself, and I hate being fat/feeling fat and i'm always worried that when people look at me they're judging me for being fat and ugly. It's driving me mad and is making my depression worse. I've struggled with bingeing and purging for a couple of years but it's got much worse recently. The thing is, athough i want to stop bingeing and purging, i still want to lose weight (which i have been doing) and this has been working for me. I don't know if i have an eating disorder, and i know no-one on here can diagnose me but I'd really like some advice. I also spend hours at the gym (3 or more hours per day)... Thanks
@greenAcres6795 - As you said, we can't formally diagnose, but I'll tell you this much - if this is an ongoing issue and causing problems in your life, it warrants getting help with, no matter how severe or not it is and no matter whether or not it's formally diagnosable. And from what you said, you've got some very dangerous ongoing habits that are starting to have real health impacts in your period disappearing, chest pain, etc. That's scary stuff and absolutely warrants attention.
If you do want to lose weight, that's also something that you can talk about with a doctor or nutritionist to understand what a healthy weight for your body is and how to get there in a way that doesn't cause so much damage to you.
