Hi everybody.

Im 17 but became belemic when I was 15 when my parents wanted me to lose a few extra pounds. I wasn't able to do it and ended up gaining tones of weight. My parents went down really hard on me and my brother and I started learning how do be balemic. I was suddenly hubgry all the time and was always thinking about food to the point where I couldn't concentrate on school work. I lost weight but couldn't stop purging so I started cutting and eventually my parents started being really harsh on me and I started thinking about suicide but I was too scared to do it. I'm a very quiet person who has major trust issues and can't talk to anyone. Even this is hard for me but I'm becoming so scared of myself and so dependent on food that my marks are bad in school. I used to be super healthy, running half marathons and triathlons but now I'm unhealthy and my heart and head hurts all the time. My parents figured out what I was doing when I started hiding food in my room and they took me to a therapist and I stopped for 3 months but then it started again but my parents think I'm all better. I don't want to involve them again but I really need help cuz it's ruining my life and I don't know how to stop. I need a partner or some tips on how to overcome this. It feels like I've tried everything and I'm feeling so hopeless.

Thanks you for reading this. Alise

Hi @Alicebell ,

I'm really sorry that you're going through this, and I'm so glad that you reached out to us here on 7Cups! I understand that sharing your story with others can feel hard and scary, and I really think you're very courageous for doing this.

You can go to 'browse listeners' and search for people that listen to teens. You can also add a category to your search like 'eating disorders' or 'self-harm'. I'm sure you'll find listeners who can relate to your experiences and are more than happy to be there for you.

You might find these self-help guides useful too: https://www.7cups.com/eating-disorder-help/ and https://www.7cups.com/self-harm/

I hope that by exploring the community, you'll see that you're not alone in this, and there's support available! You already took the first step by reaching out for help. Keep going. heart

@Alicebell

Hello,

Firstly I wanted to let you know how brave you have been to come to 7 cups for support on this. You mentioned that your behaviours first started 2 years ago when your parents wanted you to lose a few pounds and that because of this you learnt how to be bulimic? That seems very challenging. Did you ever speak to your parents at the time about how this situation made you feel?

When we don't eat we lose the energy supply that we would normally get from the food so it is natural to be unable to concentrate on much else. This is also an eating disorder behaviour that you can overcome with the help and support you deserve.

Recovery is a long-term situation and it is completely normal to have relapses, what matters is what we do after we have a relapse. You mentioned you was having therapy? Did you carry this on once you started to recover or did this stop? If it stopped is there anyway you could seek the support from your therapist without your parents knowing - if you feel that not having your parents involvement would be most beneficial.

You deserve to get the help you want and deserve, and remember that 7 Cups is here to support you during this diffcult time. You can always connect to a listener who will be able to best support you. You are not alone and there are so many people on 7 Cups who are willing to help :)

I hope I have been some help, and i wish you the best of luck with whatever you decide to do. If you have any other worreis please feel free to reply and I will answer them to my best ability as quick as I can :)

@interestingMagic64 thank you so much! I didn't think I would get responses but your reply really helps me realize I truly am not alone. I'm going to take ur advice and try to see if I can see my therapist without my parents knowledge. Thank you for taking the time to read about me. It means so much.
