@Hope I believe it can be hard to practise self-care when you put your needs last and don't consider yourself important enough to take care of
I think self care is especially difficult for people with eating disorders because we already dislike our bodies and we dont care enough about ourselves due to the ED voices.
Self-care is hard for me because it is always accompanied by feelings of guilt. I don't think I deserve to be treated well until I'm what I consider to be perfect, even though the perfection I'm striving for is unobtainable and unrealistic nonsense. Perfection is vague for me, and all I know is that I could always be better, no matter what I do or who I am, so I can never truly be perfect. I've basically made guilt free self-care impossible.
@64r7h3 I totally hear what you are saying. But remember that even the tiniest and seemingly insignificant things can be considered self care. For me I remind myself that everytime i get out of bed, eat/drink anything, watch a tv show that i like or even brush my teeth, i am practicing self care. Even writing in the forum is a form of SC and you did the brave thing and became part of the conversation. You are doing the best you can and know that you are loved and supported by the 7 cups community ❤️❤️❤️
Self care is a me-time. It means, just as it says, that I take care of my body (and mind, whole me to be honest). Shower & basic hygiene is a self care, but so are hair masks and skin care/ makeup! Cleaning up my space is an act of self care, but so is taking my room as a comfy space! Eating healthy and exercising are acts of self care, but so is taking a nap and baking some cookies! For some people self care is hard though, because of their own reasons. Sometimes I just do what (should be) best for me, but I don't do anything for my well-being. There are days when I feel like I don't deserve any good things. I think that sometimes people might feel the same.
