ARFID

Hello. I have ARFID which stands for avoidant restrictive food intake disorder. I don’t want to eat, I’m scared to eat because I’m scared I will choke or get sick, and I struggle with the way a food tastes or smells or looks.

I recently lost too much weight and my doctor is considering sending me to the hospital but I’m scared because I’m worried they are going to put an NG tube in me if I don’t eat there which I know I won’t. Does anyone have advice on how to make eating easier or can they tell me what it was like going to the hospital for an eating disorder and having an NG tube? Any information would be helpful. I’m just so scared and want to get better.

I hope that everyone struggling with an eating disorder knows that there is help out there and you are all strong and beautiful and can get through this ❤️‍🩹

@duckylistens37 It takes a great deal of courage to be this honest about what you are going through. Please know that your fear is valid and I am sorry about what you are going through.

Because you mentioned that your doctor is concerned about significant weight loss, please prioritize your physical safety above all else. If your doctor says that you need a higher level of care, he wants you to be okay soon.

It is very normal to be scared of the hospital, they want to help you so that you will be okay soon. Try to have something that you love to help you to feel better. For example, a blanket or stuffed animal or something else. Hope you will be okay soon. ❤️🤗

@warmwhisperingflower Thank You for the advice and support! I went to the doctor today and all my vitals are good so I don’t have to go to the hospital right away. I’m going to work on exposures with my therapist and dietician to try and get better! 😁
