Eating enough
I’ve struggled with an eating disorder for a while and I’m trying to focus on being healthy and maintaining instead of losing, but I’m having so much trouble eating as much as I’m supposed to to maintain my current weight. I’m so used to restricting!
that sucks im sorry to hear that
@plumOcean1804 - It is definitely a hard habit to break and to turn around! One thing that I found helpful in recovery was to try to take the same things that made me so effective at restricting and turn them around to help me with recovery. So if it was an intense focus on meeting goals, then using that same focus and determination on the new goal. If it was a need for control, thinking of the ED as something I'm arguing against and taking control back from. Sometimes I felt like it was hard to be kind and gentle to myself, but I could more easily be a brat to the ED - "You're not the boss of me! You don't get to decide!" and use my inherent sassiness in the opposite direction.
In terms of more tactical pieces, is the struggle with eating as much as you're supposed to more physical or mental in nature? In other words, does your body feel uncomfortable with eating that much (and thus solutions might be things like finding more calorie dense foods to be able to get the nutrients in a smaller total volume, or eating more frequently but less at a time to not feel as full) or is it mentally a struggle to convince yourself it's okay to eat that much (in which case solutions are more focused on reframing thoughts or finding ways to feel comfortable with what you need to do)?
