I don't know if I have an ED or not??
Well, September last year I decided to "eat healthily" cause I wanted to lose weight. Without realizing, I was starving myself by eating wayyyy too little. I lost the weight, drastically, also losty period.
I wanted the period back, people said to eat more. So I did, but I didn't want to gain the weight back. So I'd binge then starve and exercise excessively. That binge/starve cycle went on from mid of October to end of November.
Then I found out that I had to reduce my exercise. So I did, also I ate more, but it wasn't bringing. I got my period at the end of December. But now I can't stop binge eating and obsessing over food. I have been eating to the point where I can't move for the past two weeks.
I'm not sure if it's an eating disorder because I've only experienced it for 5 months? Still going though, I'm trying to eat "normally" but it's just hard
@huskky
Ususally something is considered to be a disorder after 2-5 weeks of symptoms.
To me (I am not a professional) it seems like you are having issues with eating normally due to your image of yourself which is what we typically expect to hear from individuals with eating disorders. The questions to ask yourself her is this:
1. How much does your weight/body shape impact how good you feel about yourself?
2. How much anxiety does the thought of food/weight gain cause you?
If the answer to either or both of those is a lot, combined with the behavior you have described, I would consider trying to find someone to talk to about your relationship with food. Whether that be a friend, family member, or therapist.
I wish you luck!
@UntilThen The answers of those two, a lot, yea. Thanks for your reply. I'm going to try to reach out and tell someone about this
@huskky
I'm proud of you for taking the next step!
The last five days I've eaten supper past the point of being full. An uncomfortable full and it feels like an emotional connection. Before that I had a few weeks of eating healthy and I think I was worried someone was going to accuse me of having an eating disorder because that's what happened ten years ago when I decided to try to be healthy and I ended up losing some weight. I didn't have any support back then.
