Is there a problem
Hi so I’m really new to this and honestly have no clue what I’m doing just wanted to really know if this is serious because I didn’t think it was however a friend realised some small behaviours and said there may be an issue
for around 9months I have had problems with eating in public whenever me and my family went to a restaurant I would get sick to my stomach when I saw food at first everyone was mad and said I was attention seeking and I still think that they believe this in the last 2 months it has got worse my parents put my issue down to not wanting people to see me eat but I know that’s not it I feel physically sick whenever I see or smell food and struggle to eat a full meal
I went a long period of time not eating lunch in school first binning the food I was packed then buying food just to bin it so my parents would suspect anything however once people started to notice I ended up telling my mum. She thinking it was still about public eating has started packing me small snacks for lunch rather than meals but I still can’t eat them. Most days i just place the box into the middle of my friends and everyone else digs in they all seem to have forgotten what they have said in the past about me needing to eat
i an unable to skip meals at home due to my parents so I find myself not eating in school to try and make up for it but I still feel awful. I regularly attempt to make myself Throw up but can never do it which just annoys me more.
I also tried wrapping tape around my stomach to make it smaller but I was too scared to leave my room with it on in case I was caught.
I know I’m not fat or overweight but I just wish I was skinnier but most teenage girls feel like that. I still believe my parents think I’m being dramatic or attention seeking and even make jokes about it so I can’t talk to them.
I don’t know what to do I don’t think theres a serious issue yes it’s not good but don’t all teenage girls do this idk maybe I’m being stupid for even asking but I just want an answer because I didn’t think skipping a meal and having bad thoughts was unusual for a girl my age.
Hi @Kk2416! Sorry that you're going through this and with so little support. Sadly I think what you're experiencing is not uncommon between teenage girls but it's not healthy. Is there any chance your parents will take you to see a professional? Eating disorders are serious problems and I hope you get the help you need. Hope you get better soon 💕.
I've faced the same problem but for different reasons. If this helps I suggest eating new types of food you haven't eaten and starting to exercise more. So maybe then your appetite will grow and if you want to maintain your body, exercise will do the job. You wouldn't have to worry about what you eat anymore.
@Kk2416 It sounds like you feel physically sick whenever you see or smell food, and this is making it hard for you to get enough to eat. Do you think closing your eyes and/or having bland meals without much of a smell might help? This resource may be useful to you: https://www.7cups.com/eating-disorder-help/ I'm hearing that your parents do not understand your feelings about food and often do not listen to or believe you when you explain how you feel. You might consider talking to a teen listener if you think it would help. I hope you find happiness and health in your life.
