NEDAwareness Week💜
Hello💜 It is National Eating Disorder Awareness week, also known as NEDA. I and some others were hit with some news nearly a month ago, so I wanted to raise awareness about eating disorders💜
If you want to know more about eating disorders, you can check out this amazing post here.
Age Stereotype:
Firstly, I wanted to say that eating disorders can happen to anyone, regardless of their age, gender, ethnicity or anything else. Eating disorders have, sadly, been looked at contrarily by our society, meaning that many people assume only teenage girls are impacted by eating disorders, which is not accurate at all.
This notion of “Only teenage girls having eating disorders” typically comes around because there are these stereotypical narratives that say “Only girls worry about the way they look, boys don’t.”
Because of this, there are more resources for girls with eating disorders to get help, whereas, boys don't have many/none of the resources for receiving help and their family might not be as conscious of the disordered eating behaviours because of this stereotype. I say girls and boys, however, this also can go for people who are non-binary, agender, gender fluid, etc...
I just wanted to clear that up.
I am now going to share some Myths & Facts, feel free to add more in the comments💜:
• Myth: People with eating disorders are just attention-seeking.
- Fact: Eating disorders are not a choice at all, they are a serious illness and can be life-threatening.
• Myth: You can tell if someone has an eating disorder by looking at them.
- Fact: People who suffer with eating disorders come in all shapes and sizes. The media and our society have depicted people with an ED to look a certain way, which often focus on a distinct diagnoses of anorexia. Individuals who suffer from eating disorders can be of any weight and they can fluctuate in weight.
Now here are some quotes and what they might mean, putting them into context of eating disorders:

Inferred meaning: No matter what it tells you. No matter how persuading it is. No matter how tough it may be. Don't give up, keep fighting the thoughts and the pain, you won't regret it when you're looking back on your life while in recovery. It can be done!
Inferred meaning: You do not have to feel wonderful all the time. We do, however, have to begin acknowledging all of our emotions rather than endeavoring to conceal them! Love yourself just the way you are, with terrible days and all!

Each day on the 1st March - 7th March, I will be posting in here some quotes and bits of information. (It might appear that I am ahead of time, but it is the 1st for me)

Hey💜 It's day 2 of NEDA week! Yesterday in my post, i added a link to a great post that tells you about eating disorders, types and how to seek help. I thought that i will list eating disorder types here as well in case you didnt see the other one, I won't go into too much detail.
• Anorexia Nervosa- You keep your weight low by doing things like restricting, however, not all people with anorexia are severely underweight.
• Binge Eating Disorder (BED)- You eat lots in a short amount of time and feel like you have lost control, then feel guilty about what you have eaten.
• Bulimia- You purposely throw up food or use laxatives, enemas, or diuretics. You make up for your binges by fasting, excessive exercising, or going on harsh diets.
• Other Specified Feeding and Eating Disorders (OSFED)- It's an eating disorder classification for those who do not match with any other eating disorder. It is still valid, either way.
• Orthorexia (it's considered apart of OSFED but is slowly becoming it's own type)- Orthorexia is an eating disorder that involves an obsession with healthy eating. Unlike other eating disorders, orthorexia mostly revolves around food quality, not quantity.
• Avoidant Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID)- It's an eating or feeding disturbance that is characterized by persistently not meeting appropriate nutritional and/or energy needs.
• Pica- Pica is an eating disorder in which a person eats things not usually considered food. Sometimes they eat things that can lead to health problems.
• Rumination Disorder- Rumination disorder/syndrome is a rare behavioral disorder in which food is brought back up from the stomach. It is either rechewed, reswallowed, or spit out. It is not acidic, like sick.
• Unspecified Feeding or Eating Disorder (UFED)- UFED is diagnosed when an individual’s symptoms do not line up with those of another disorder, or when there is simply not enough information to determine a more specific diagnosis. This UFED label can change once more information is gathered or symptoms change.
Now here are some quotes:

Inferred meaning: Don’t expect to be recovered the next day or week or month. Things will get tough, but you can choose them tough days to be days of experience and use that experience to become stronger.

Inferred meaning: Be your own self, not a copy of another person. Say how you feel, instead of lying to yourself and others that “You’re fine.” The people who don’t care about you or your feelings, don’t matter and the people who do matter to you, will care about you and your feelings.
Hope this helps! Take care💜
Hello!💜 It's day 3 of NEDAwareness week. Today I thought about sharing positive messages to help encourage people and to know you aren't alone💜
Message from me 🦋:
You might hear this a lot, you might not believe it but I will say it anyway because it's true. You are strong, capable of anything. You are beautiful, inside and out. You are you and that's amazing! no one else will ever be you because we are born to differ from one another, we are born to stand out from one another. Recovery may seem hard and I'm not going to glorify it, saying “It’s easy.” because it's not, but you can do it and you are strong enough to start recovering but you need to believe it yourself. Recovery won't be a straight path, it will be all over the place, but I believe you can get through the not-so-good days to push through to the good days, like Marcandangel said “The biggest and most complex obstacle you'll ever have to overcome is your own mind.”
Not everything will go perfect because we are only human💜 Lastly, I would like to say, there are this many (clickable) people in the world. I know it may feel like we are alone and you may feel like no one understands but you are not alone in this, there are so many people in this world and many will understand what you are going through.💜
Always remember:
- You are Helpful
- You are Unique
- You are Magnificent
- You are Amazing
-You are Necessary
No one is perfect, no one is better than another, we all take different routes which can never be compared and we are all so unique. That's why above, I spelt Human💜

Hey! Day 4 of NEDAwareness week💜 I thought today I could share a bit of history about a few of the eating disorders and add in some quotes, of course😛💜
- History of Anorexia Nervosa:
In 1689, Richard Morton illustrated two topics of “nervous consumption” one of them was “nervous consumption” in a boy and one was “nervous consumption” in a girl. These are deemed to be the earliest modern cases of the disorder/illness, most know this illness as, anorexia nervosa. Of course, there are more cases far back but I just yearned to present the, supposedly, earliest ones.
- History of Bulimia Nervosa:
In discrepancy to anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa occurs to be of a more “modern action.” Bulimia nervosa was first depicted as a variant of anorexia around the time of 1979 by Gerald Russell. Intentionally being sick was a practice in obsolete Egypt, Greece, Rome, and Arabia, cultures. They undertook it as a way to avert any diseases that were presumed to have come from the food.
- History of (BED) Binge Eating Disorder:
Binge eating disorder was first exemplified around the time of 1959 by Albert Stunkard, who called binge eating disorder, “ Night Eating Syndrome.” He later stipulated that binge eating could arise without the nocturnal factor of that disorder.
That's a little history on a few eating disorder types!💜
Now onto the quotes:
