Not Sure If This Could Be an ED

I’ve been having trouble for about 8 years, usually on and off, when it comes to eating. I don’t care about my weight at all usually, but I find myself being unable to force myself to eat even if I’m physically hungry. I’ve never talked to a professional because I’m worried I’ll be shut down. I just don’t like to eat sometimes, especially if I’m feeling anxious or depressed, and I’ll go through lengths to avoid it if I can, usually not on purpose but sometimes even if I know I should eat I can’t. Does this count as an eating disorder? How can I develop good habits if I physically can’t force myself to eat sometimes?

It sounds like you are experiencing some stress and difficulties that are resulting in eating aversion. The DSM has some specific criteria about what "an eating disorder" means, but trouble with food is real and important whether or not you fit in a diagnostic category! It seems like you know on an experiential level that this is unhealthy for you

I've suffered from the same problem for years as well, and I can say that going to the doctor to ask for appetite stimulants is helpful.
