@amicableFriend4883 False, in my opinion, although I am not an expert.

The reason is that a severe eating disorder can cause lack of nourishment for the brain, and that in turn can cause an abnormal mental state in which the person does not want to recover. Restoring adequate nourishment for the brain corrects the abnormal mental state, and that in turn allows the person to start wanting to recover.

I know this makes it sound simpler than it really is. Eating disorders can be complicated and difficult.

@amicableFriend4883 People may want to recover but also have a resistance to recovering. So a yes/no answer might not be the full story.

@amicableFriend4883 Generally if someone doesn't want to recover and they're in their comfort zone, it's hard to convince them otherwise. The first thing we learned in psych school was that you have to motivate them in some way. So it is hard but not impossible. Thank you for the question!

@amicableFriend4883 some people want recovery but don't know how to get control of their ED. I think its a yes/no. Only because if a person does not really want recovery then they may not recover. I think that the answer is really different for everyone because we all struggle in different ways. I think that this is a good question to ask.
