Athletes struggling with body image

I’m an athlete, I’ve played sports my whole life as well as disordered eating patterns. As a naturally muscular girl I struggle with body image and am really worried about going to college and having people think I’m fat, mind you I’m in the underweight-normal category for my height. I’ve become obsessed with food and my weight. It’s affected my athletic performance and made me more lazy but I don’t know what to do. I’m obsessed with calories and macros and I do want to maintain or lose some weight, however my body and mind are not capable of that. This has thrown me into a depression and I don’t know what to do. I want to change but I know it’s bad for me but staying this way makes me sick. Just wanted to reach out and see if there are other athletes in similar situations

@Hiiiii223

It's important that you take it one day at a time.

And everything in moderation.

And listen to your body.

And is there a coach or other people you train with, you can talk to and get support ?

Sending you my best wishes 🩷

not an athlete but I have been obsessed with macros and calories and working out and maintaining a lean physique , it gets better over time , your brain will get tired of overthinking and realise it’s unsustainable , I hope you feel better soon ❤️‍🩹 these times will be over sooner than you think

@Hiiiii223

Lifelong endurance athlete, cycling and running and former cycling coach. Personally it is only the past few years as health has restricted me more and insulin resistance has become an issue that I have watched my weight, historically i had more problems fuelling sufficiently.

I worked with club cyclists of all levels and ages so I can empathise with you and would recommend talking with a sport specific coach/trainer and maybe a nutritionist as well. Times and knowledge has moved on a long way since my coaching days.
