Cooking triggering

Hi! I want to ask if this is a common occurrence for anybody else.

I recently started cooking for the first time in my life. I know it might sound crazy, but I really struggle with feeling contaminated or dirty when touching leftovers or uncooked food, so I have avoided cooking for most of my life.

I recently moved in with my partner and I decided I wanted to experiment cooking so the full load of that task would not fall on my partner. The first couple of times I noticed I got really anxious and was way too aware of cleaning everything and washing my hands. I would stop mid steps to clean something

But I succeeded with the recipes

(I then had trouble convincing myself to eat it, but that’s another topic)

I cooked beef for the first time a couple of days ago, I started fully panicking with how the food had been handled, touching leftovers (pieces I cut out or stuff like that), then my partner started serving himself a different type of food close to where my food was and I got so much anxiety about “wrong” foods touching each other. I was nauseous and could not calm myself. Had to totally disconnect

I feel like cooking has been triggering parts of my ED I believed were totally in the past, is it the same for anybody? How do you handle it?

@LostIt1809

Thank you for sharing with us so openly.

It's amazing you still gave it a go, despite how it was making you feel

That's brave.

It might help you to cook small dishes at a time, consistently , building up towards bigger dishes, to take the pressure off you and minimise the triggering feelings 🩷

I'm sorry this is affecting you in this way 💛
