Going back to Treatment

Hi, this is my first post here on this community board. I'm really not looking for advice, I just need support. I've been struggling with a menagerie of ED behaviors since I was about 5. I think some if is due to my autism and my thing with textures. I went to treatment back in october-beginning of December of last year, but I wasn't able to maintain healthy eating by any means, mostly because my best friend died then 13 days later my 1.5 year old cat was diagnosed with cardiac failure. I know I need to go back, especially because it's interfering with my ability to function. And I'm having emotional responses to my symptoms that are inhibiting me from doing things I enjoy or just need to do. When I was in treatment I was having a much better time with my attention and mood after I got out of residential. I'm just dreading a trip to residential.

Anyways anything anyone has to offer is appreciated.

I am so sorry to hear about the pain you have been through, @Daybreak444 🪻

I've been through Ed treatment too and I also struggle with textures. This was kinda comforting to read. 💕

You deserve treatment and it sounds like you know you need it. It's okay to need some support taking those steps, I'm proud of you for making this post! ❤️

You are not alone. You can do it. When you are ready. 🦋

I appreciate the kind words @CandleLight06 that means a lot. Reading helped a lot the last time. I'm hoping it provides the same comfort this time. I'm going to bring more art supplies now that I'm familiar with what they allow there

Hi there @Daybreak444,

I first want to tell you how brave you are for reaching out for help. It's a really difficult thing to do for many people to admit we need more help than we can provide for ourselves, so I just thought I'd applaud you for that. I'm so very sorry to hear about your best friend passing away, and then your cat getting sick. I know that couldn't have been very easy, and I can see how it would have caused your symptoms of ED to be worse. Remember, all of your feelings are valid. I think it's awesome that you are advocating for yourself. Best wishes in your journey, we are here for you. <3

Hey there. Thanks so much for the kind words @wishfulWillow7295. I'm really hoping to sort my life out and try to be in a real routine soon. My therapist and I are working on trying to keep me out of treatment so I can live my life but if I need it i need it yk? I'm working individually with a therapist right now to work through my ED thoughts and behaviors and it's been helpful. I'm just hoping to see some good out of my situation soon.

Hi @Daybreak444

I am also autistic (diagnosed last year at the age of 26). I suffered with an ED from the ages of 13 - 24 (first anorexia, then bulimia), so I understand the horrible horrible pain you are going through. I would 100% recommend seeking treatment again, whether it's residential or seeing a specialist ED therapist for an hour every day. I believed I would never ever ever be free from my ED or able to recover, but I promise it's possible and so so so worth it. Seeking therapy and seeking recovery is the best gift you can ever give yourself. I have been free from ED thoughts and behaviours for 3 years now and they have been the best 3 years of my life. I hope you are able to find the support you need and deserve in your life! <3

Thank you for the recommendations @PipC98. I will definitely look into what options are available to me as I am looking at going back to the work force soon, I thankfully have a therapist that has experience and training in treating EDs, so that's been helpful. I definitely need like a dietician and stuff tho

@Daybreak444 that is awesome that you have been able to find an ED specialist therapist - there are sadly not enough of them! I found a dietician to be super helpful (at one point I was seeing three different therapists: family therapy, individual therapy and a dietician!). They were all so helpful and I'm eternally grateful to them :)

@ PipC98 yeah I'm excited to continue to get more people on my team as I need them. I just have to do some hunting bc my insurance is so weird. Ugh. Healthcare.
