Happy Thanksgiving - We're Here for You
In the US, today is Thanksgiving, a day that is typically surrounded by family and food. For many with eating, this is an incredibly difficult day. Sometimes there is family trauma, sometimes family is very supportive and a lifeline.
The food however, seems to be the enemy on this day. There seems to be too much, and this day brings out fears of having to eat, dreams of binges when no one is around, how to restrain from binging, how to avoid having other watch us eating, and facing the demons that lie in wait because of the eating disorder or disordered eating for those who do not yet have an eating disorder but struggle with food.
You are not alone today.
What healthy things help you get through times when there is a lot of food around, when you are feeling intense emotions because of it such as fear or trepidation?
What kind of things that are healthy, bring you comfort on days like today, where there is a lot of people and a lot of food?
Who are your support people during these times and what can they do to help you?
Please share your thoughts, and how we can support you.
@KristenHR Life a thanks giving is hard, I can relate to that, even though we don't have thanks giving here. We have "Morten's evening" instead, where we eat like pigs of duck, turkey, gravy and so on. This year it fell on my mother's birthday, and as one of my grandma's don't like to celebrate her birthday we slammed all of those three things into one day.
Which I guess is good, as I won't have to eat like pigs three days, but my mom went VERY overboard with the food and made all the things we normally only eat at Christmas PLUS cake. Damn I was stressed that day.
Luckily I had my servicedog with me, and he helped distracting me from the food a lot. Yes I ate a little, but I managed to leave most of the phone off of my plate. I don't want to repeat Christmas from a few years ago where I totally pigged out, bc I was in recovery and finally letting myself feel hunger. Never again!
