My Mother Won't Allow Me to Eat the Way I Want
TW: Anorexia
My mother just yesterday came into my room. Half of my dinner was still on the plate and I was done with it. She told me that if I keep this up that I will have to eat in front of her. This sent me into a spiral. I don't want to go back to the worst of my anorexia. I don't know what to do. Help?

@goodPlane2717 I get what you're saying. Personally, my relationship with my mom is very strenuous, and I would rather do anything than talk to her about anything related to my mental health/similar. But, and I hate to say it, this seems to be a clear example of restriction. I applaud you for not hiding it, though! And I know you may disagree, but: many people with anorexia, even if recovered, may not have the most reliable hunger cues. It is important to eat regularly, even if not hungry, as these hunger cues may be diminished or not even present. Second, and I am saying this because I don't know if you are in recovery/how far along, but prolonged starvation/restriction can shrink the stomach. So even if you feel full, even to the point of nausea/pain, it is important to keep eating, in order to reverse the effects of the prolonged underfueling. I wish you the best of luck on your journey, and am always here if you need anything, but for now-listen to your mom. She wants what's best for you, even if it doesn't seem that way.
