I want to ask, how did you recover? What was your reason?

Does anyone actually know how to recover? I’ve been battling overeating for a while, mostly I’ve just had thoughts about it, and not actually gave in. It’s either my favorite food or mostly candy.

I feel that my situation is very different from others, cause I also have ARFID, you don’t hear much about that together with food addiction.

I have tried contacting specialists, apparently there’s the longest wait in history, and I think there’s a pretty big chance of being invalidated by them.

I usually know what the problems are, I always figure it out, but not this. It has to be some psychological issue?

I’ve noticed that I forget about other stuff when I do something I REALLY like to do, including forgetting about food. But distracting myself only seems like a temporary solution to a huge problem.

I deter away from this site a lot, cause it’s probably more effective to get help IRL, but since I have to wait multiple months for help, I’m asking here. Should I get a therapist? If so, would it be better to get one that focuses on food? My problems may not lie with food, but more with some things I have other places. It’s a tiring journey to find the right help.

I want to ask, how did you recover? What was your reason?

@CallMeFriday

I found Ro Mitchell  (youtube) to be an inspiration.

And therapy. And support groups.

It can be challenging to find the right one. But a "Take what works and leave the rest" approach meant I could learn something useful from each one.

Also "try something different". I challenged myself to just try something different. It stopped me worrying about whether it was the right thing to do. Or if it would work. If it was different, I should try it. If it didn't work, never mind, I succeeded in trying something different and I could try again.

Distractions aren't a long term solution. But a totally valid means to get past a difficult moment. Why shouldn't you get to do something enjoyable as a break from dealing with this?

Perhaps maybe urge surfing technique might be useful?

Keep searching for what works for you. It's out there.
