@sxvonne It's the processed sugars that drive false hungers and perpetuate overeating. Cutting those out can be a helpful place to start. With regards to emotional eating, I adapted the AA 'HALT' model of emotionally-driven drinking into what I have called the 'BLOAT' model - am I just bored, lonely, overwhelmed, angry or tired? These are feelings, not hungers therefore food cannot resolve them. I've just mentioned his work in another post, but can recommend the work of Glenn Livingston and Never Binge Again. Or the OG in this field -Rational Recovery by Jack Trimpey.

@sxvonne

Struggling not to binge with intense or uncomfortable emotions can be difficult.  I typically will ask a couple questions when I'm turning to food when I'm emotions instead of true hunger.

What do I need right now?

What would comfort me right now instead of food?

If I eat this, will it fill the need I have or will it (need) still be there an I'll just feel worse about me afterwards?

Who can I call to talk through this (If no one is at home).

This is something I’ve struggled with as well. Please try not to fall into a pattern of restriction. Make sure to fuel your body with the appropriate nutrients needed.

What you can do, as others have suggested, is cut out those processed, refined sugars! Skip those and replace them with natural sugars like honey, dates, and pair vanilla extract with cinnamon in your baked desserts!

It’s a long process that isn’t always linear, and not at all easy, but it’ll you start taking the steps now, it will be easier down the line. Best of luck!
