@emsworld thanks.
Considering that my struggles are possibly characteristic of eating disorders is a bit new to me. Even though I've always known it was a problem. Have worked very hard in the last couple years to get it controlled after serious health scare. So I hope the support I find here will help me with it.
@MysticN I know this is totally unrelated but I love your profile pic😊❤️👌🏻
@Caitlynbeatles Thanks!
I painted it! Inspired by a 'safe place' panic attack visualization technique
@MysticN I can totally understand that it can take some time to realise that our behaviours/characteristics could be a sign of something bigger, and it is certainly takes some strength. I am glad that you are working hard managing your recovery and I hope that you can find the support you are looking for
It is great to have you join our community!
@emsworld
Hey Ems, I'm so happy to be a part of this community :)
@emsworld
Okay, I'm a bit new to this, so sorry if I'm just being silly. You said to say hello, so hello! I've never really had a support group when I've suffered from an eating disorder. Never even had to anyone to really relate to. So this is new and very welcome for me. :)
Hello, I am a really messed up person, and have so many "issues" so I try to make light of my eating disorder, I am an overeater and am 100 pounds overweight. I am very short, so I am Morbidly obeses. This really scares me. but I never talk about it. Whew.
@amarifey Everyone is messed up
It's okay. I hope you find motivation and support here that you need. I have struggled with being overweight too and overeating and it took a traumatic health scare for me to find proper motivation. I still stuggle with whatever drives me to overeat, I think there's an addiction aspect. It can be done though, it can be fought.
Hello I am 55 and a c.o.e. I am almost 90 lbs overweight and feeling pretty scared about my future. I just recently have started a keto plan of eating and it is really tough completely stopping eating sugar and only eating 20 grams of carbohydrates a day. I have attended several OA meetings and hope I can become a healthier weight this summer.
@bgdave
Hey, I'm 37 and just joined too. How are you liking OA? I haven't been, I'm too afraid, but I'm looking into it. I'm also just learning how to use 7cups, so I may not know exactly how all of this works.
@franimal61
Hi welcome to 7 cups and don't worry about being nervous in OA. It is a safe place to be as others there struggle with the same or similar issues. I know it may be hard to not feel like your being judged or it is embarrassing talking about your problems but remember what happens there stays there and it is a fellowship of people that struggle with food. Your not alone. I am doing the Keto diet and have quit sugar and now only eat 20 grams of carbs a day. I have dropped 10 lbs! I am new so it is still new to me and have not become real comfortable with it yet. Like Saturday I went to a celebration bbq and there were slices of carrot cake and it was so hard not eating one. I still miss many things like oatmeal and sourdough and apples. However I want to get down to 265 and I am at 350 so sweets are no bueno for me. Hang in there you will figure out what feels right for you. You can do it!
Hi,
New here and currently in ED recovery! Back to a "healthy" BMI but still struggling with obsessive thoughts and feelings about food...my day literally revolves around what I'm eating. I'm also finding my weight gain really tough. Does anyone have any tips to help manage these struggles?
Hi @sympatheticCar3451
I am on the opposite side of the spectrum, I am trying to keep my bmi down after being overweight. I think that some tips would help either way though. I think the most important thing when you are trying to affect a change, is monitoring yourself. Like calorie counting, or setting reminders to eat. It might depend on where your struggles are coming from. Is it mental/behavioral/habit? or is it a matter of what you are eating? If its a mental block, establishing a good source of motivation is important. And has to be kept strong. If its what you are eating, find out where changes could be made. Another reason tracking or monitoring would help.
@sympatheticCar3451 also, I can relate to thoughts evolving around food. Definitely hard. Planning ahead, sticking to plans, finding distractions, mindfulness, mantras, meditation... all could be useful.
@sympatheticCar3451 Hey! Ive found that Ive gotten much better when I stopped weighing myself as much, and sometimes just think that the scales are wrong, its doesnt matter if you gain some weight, its perfectly normal , especially when your growing, and remember muscle weighs more than fat!
Embarassingly, the hardest time that I have about eating healthy is how much it costs. any suggestions?
@amarifey It depends an awful lot on what you are eating/paying for now that is unhealthy and would like to change, compared to what healthier options you want to try and what those cost. Fresh fruits and vegetables can be low cost if you stick to whats in season or find produce markets. Hot whole grain cereals like oatmeal can be inexpensive and can often be purchased in bulk. If you eat out, changing that habit will save money and help focus on healthier options. Thinking about portion sizes can help as well. If you get something that is a little higher priced, but stick to the number of portions in it, it may be relatively cost effective. Dried beans go a long way, are very good for you and shouldn't be too expensive.
Plus, although this is a little more abstract comparison, being healthy is far more cost effective in terms of healthcare cost.
