@emsworld Guess I should say something, right? I'm Sophi, I found 7 Cups a few years ago but never really joined until recently. I joined this community because I recently came to terms with the fact that I do have an eating disorder, and felt like a community would help me form some kind of baseline support. I like creative writing and stuff, and I like observing other people.

@IsshunNoShunkan

Welcome Sophi! As everyone says, acceptance is the first step to recovery :) I know how challenging it can be to admit that you have an eating disorder and I'm so proud of you for getting to that point. We're glad that you joined!

@enthusiasticPrune3112 - Welcome, I'm glad you're here! I can definitely relate to that feeling of struggle in trying to recover on your own and doubting yourself or talking yourself out of taking it seriousl without a diagnosis. What I will say is this - I cannot diagnose because I'm not a medical professional, but I will say that if you think it's a problem, it probably is (and usually we understate our issues so it's likely more serious than you allow yourself to believe), and regardless of how big or small an issue it is, if it's something that is getting in your way and making life harder, it's something that's worth getting support on! Feel free to reach out if you could use someone to talk to <3

Strikes me this forum is supporting two ends of a sliding scale, and is that possible without being triggering? How comfortable is it for those who deprive themselves of food to sit alongside those who crave food? Isnt that like the trauma community also supporting abusers on the same forum? Forgive me if thats a crass example, but I say it out of frustration.

Id really like to get some support with my overeating, but Im wary of sharing information that may trigger those who undereat. I dont even know whats politically correct in terminology. What I do know is Im killing myself with food, and I need to break this cycle.

@BestIcanbe - I can definitely see how it can feel that way, but having participated in support groups that include people with all forms of eating disorders, I have generally seen that even if the symptoms feel opposite, there is much more in common than different, both in where the disorders come from / the coping need they serve for the individual and in many cases in what is helpful. For instance, I have at times struggled with restricting, purging, and binging (I would say anorexia, bulimia and BED, but actually have never perfectly fit any of those definitions even if colloquially my symptoms would suggest it), and many of the things that helped me through each are the same if used slightly differently.

All that said, I do think that there are times when support in the same space is helpful and times that support in unique spaces is helpful, which is why this category has some spaces that are general (welcome/icebreakers, general ED support, recovery, resources) and others that are more topic specific (anorexia support, bulimia support, BED support, other eating disorders support) in hopes that everyone can find some of what they are looking for.

And my PMs are always open to you and others who need some extra support - as I said, I've been through a bit of each end of the spectrum, so hopefully I can offer some support that is directed to any piece of it.

Hi there, I'm Lauren. I went on 7 cups once awhile ago but I never stuck to it. I keep thinking that I'm getting better only to fall back into the same routines and I'm sick of feeling the way I do all the time. I've not been diagnosed with an eating disorder but I really hate my body and how I look. Just hope I can get some support before I start to worry my family and do things I'll regret.

@smirnoffthecat - I'm glad you're here and reaching out - that's the first step! What sort of support do you feel like you need right now? How can we best support you?

hi there. I joined 7 cups a while ago but couldn't manage to figure out how to use it. I've been struggling with an eating disorder with anorexic tendencies for quite a while, but I haven't been diagnosed formally as my parents don't really think I am suffering that badly or have severe symptoms. im hoping to gain support for my eating disorder as there is all this stigma around mental health at my school. we all talk about it but never really address the problem. its like we are only scratching the surface. anyway, I have been struggling with body image my whole life and have always been controlling my food intake but the severity of my ED has kind of made me see things a bit clearer. hopefully, 7 cups will help me get my life back on track and start the tough road to recovery from an eating disorder.

@anabellamia1189 - Proud of you for opening up here! Whether or not you have a formal diagnosis, if you have an issue that is harming you and making things tougher to get through, it's worthy of support and help and healing, and we want to help you on that journey. What do you feel like would most help you right now?
