Anorexia Recovery
Why is anorexia recovery so hard?! I have been hospitalized and I know I had less than two days to live, but 2 years after hospitalization, I just can't beat this and I'm not sure I want to
It is hard, and unfairly so. It's hard enough to get through recovery when you truly want it, and it's tough to maintain the drive to recover, even when most of you knows it's necessary. One thing that can be helpful is to help yourself have constant reminders of why you want it. That could be making a list of all the reasons recovery is worth it and posting it where you see it regularly, it could be having check points with someone you trust each day to talk about how you're feeling and your motivation, it could mean putting up recovery oriented quotes all around your room - something to make sure that even when you're not feeling like you want to recover, you can be reminded of why you're working so hard to do it.
It's hard. I still haven't done it either. No matter how hard I try I can't bring my body to eat or to want to eat. I know I'm going to become frail and sick but the need to be skinny and the need to be something other than I am is too strong. I know how you feel and I want you to know. I'm here for you.
@thathurt448 - I know it's so easy to feel that being skinny is what you really need and that it will bring the change in the rest of your life that you are looking for, but I'm willing to bet that to this point, losing weight hasn't actually made you any happier or any more satisfied with your life. On the other hand, recovery can allow you to reclaim your life, to find joy again, and to bring power back. I know you are stronger than you realize and that you have the ability to heal, and I want to help you on that path, if you want the support. PM me anytime, and know that you really can recover.
Hey...an eating disorder is something relatively new to my life. And I'm scared honestly. Scared of dying. I'm already feeling sick and weak and I haven't been battling it that long yet. About a year and a half ago I started restricting my eating and now here I am and I can't even justify putting food to my lips. I never thought it would get to this point. But I don't eat unless I have to to keep up appearances, and when I do I spit most of it out or make sure it's usually no more than (edited by @Anomalia to remove specific calories/triggers) calories. Then I immediately try to exercise it off. I just...I want to get better before I reach a point of no return...but also, I don't want anyone to get in my way...I don't know what I'm doing...
@amicableFig9824 - Just about hte hardest part of eating disorder recovery is to continue to work towards it when half of you really wants to get better and the other half is screaming at you not to. But I think the fact that you are reaching out here is a really good first step, and I know that recovery is possible, even when it doesn't feel like it.
Feel free to PM me if you want to talk more, and keep reaching out for the support you need! You deserve to live a life free from this disease and full of joy.
