The Difference Between Wanting and Needing To Recover

Many of us use the word want and need interchangeably, but there is a difference! We many not want to recover but we know we need to! So what is the difference?

A want is something what we desire, something we feel we need! Something that we have motivation for! A need is something you have to have, and know we have to have it to survive!

So what does this have to do with recovery?

If we Want recovery that is great, that means that we are willing to get better! Not in all cases though do we Want recovery that is when the question of, "But do I need it?" come into play!

What does needing recovery look like?

Some of us deal with eating disorders and haven't come to terms with it yet, or we might be scared to get better because of the results we have seen from our eating disorders. So when you look at needing recovery it may be hard for you to realize this is what you need! here are some questions to ask yourself:

-How long have I been struggling?

-What physical symptoms am I dealing with due to this disorder?

-Is the eating disorder I am dealing with taking over my life? or my thoughts?

-Do I feel happy with my body, or weight?

-What do my friends/family say about my struggles?

-what is my current relationship with food?

@TheAsh awesome questions to ask for self discovery and to pinpoint exactly where you are in relatioship to your recovery process.

@TheAsh Thank you for sharing. A lot of people do think "want" and "need" are the same and it's not true! Thanks again! :)
