When struggling with eating disorders support systems are a great thing to have when you are recoverying. What does a positive support system look like to you? What is your support system?

@TheAsh, for me a positive support system would like the one that I can benefit from. The one that is interested in actually supporting you and understanding that it may be hard for you to recover even if they don't see it that way. A system that has a positive impact on you.

I think, for my myself, MOST importantly, is a support system that knows my tricks. It's horrible and the disease can you make a good liar, actor, and manipulator. So a support system is that is loving, understand, accepting, supporting, AND who truly understand the disease, is what I think are great qualities.

@Eccho

I agree with what alot of people said on here for building their support system. Even though talking about your ED is super hard, the more people you tell the less you can hide your disordered behaviors. Telling friends and family who are supportive helps you be more accountable. I've been struggling and know I need to tell my mom. I'm afraid to disappoint them. But it's better to tell them because they worry and want you to recover. Try your best to be honest about your behaviors because ED wants you to lie to everyone that you're fine and don't need the help. Let down your walls and let people in helps me build support. When I go into ED mode I build walls and isolate.
