Deciding on a divorce

I’ve been going through some rough times with my wife recently and we seem to be wanting diffident things, we have a beautiful daughter that I really love even though I used to be against the idea of having kids

we cant seem to agree on the direction of our life together, she is more about playing it safe and i’m more about trying new things and moving to new places to live

What would be your advice in this case ? it’s really hard to decide knowing that I will not be able to see my daughter a lot of we get divorced and it’s something I cant imagine

though my work forces me to travel a lot so I cant be the one to take care of her. I know she is better off with her mother. I’m really lost.

@Gregory3 From where I'm standing, I think the best option is divorce. I can tell that you love your daughter very much, and I assume your wife does too, which means the most important thing from all of this is her. Because of how different your life goals are, a divorce will stop your daughter from suffering from arguments and seeing her parents hurt each other. I think you should try negotiating with your wife about the actual divorce and how often you get to see your daughter. I know it will be painful, unable to see her as much as you used to, but I think it is the best option for her to have a welcoming home. However, it could also work out if you two somehow find a compromise, sort of meet in the middle, so that something as drastic as a divorce will remain unneeded. These are some of my thoughts but I believe whatever choice you make will be the best one.

@Gregory3

I can understand your situation as I am also a person who came across this path. Relationships will make us feel happy and comfortable only if both of us are bowing in the same direction. But if it is the opposite, then there start a lot of problems for both partners. If you are not happy to cope with the relationship, then the better way is to have a divorce. Give respect to each one's opinion and move apart with that respect. You can talk to your wife about this clearly and both can have a wise decision. As a father, you will surely feel bad to be separated from your daughter. As you know a child needs the love and care of both the parents. You can talk to your wife about this as well and can make a good decision on taking care of the child. I think this can give you an idea on how to proceed further.

I think you owe it to your child to try couples counseling. Divorce isn’t a simple thing, it will change your child’s life, and you should really get some professional input. Please don’t trust strangers on the web to give you the green light for divorce (I guess don’t trust me too much either). Get professional support

perhaps you should be asking yourself if either you or your wife are willing to try to save things. I believe that people should try if they get married and try hard. This is doubly true if a child is involved. But that is my opinion. You mention wanting to move and she doesn’t. If you move without her, you won’t see your child very much. Are you okay with that?
