my brother is in jail since eight months. in the last years we have hated each other. i will never forget the hurtful things he said to me. but when i saw him that day leaving the house with the handcuffs and the police i broke down. i even sent him a letter telling him that he really hurt me when he told me those things but that i still care about him and that i have never forgotten him, but all he did was telling my mother that i shouldn’t have told him that and by that he made my mother believe that i kind of insulted him in that letter. my mother makes me feel like a heartless monster for that. i can’t live like this anymore and i need help.

I am sorry to hear you are feeling down and frustrated. It sounds like you put a lot of thought into the letter you wrote to your brother. I understand you love him very much and you wanted to convey to him that, even thought you've had a difficult relationship in the past, that you wanted to give him your support. It sounds as if he misunderstood your letter and he discussed the misunderstanding with your mother. Have you been able to sit down with your mother to explain your intentions when you wrote the letter? How do you think she would respond to you clarifying your intentions? Is there a time of day you feel would be best to talk with her? Perhaps there is a quiet, calm part of the day that might work best for communication. Is it possible for you to speak with your brother? Do you feel like he would be open to talking with you and, perhaps, clarify your intention with him directly? I know it's hard to overcome a misunderstanding in a family and how tense and stressful it feels.

hi, thank you so much for your answer. i don’t think i can have this kind of conversation with my mother. it’s like she forgot everything that my brother did to her and she sees him like an angel, and she sees me like a mess, the worst daughter she could ever have. she has never worried about my mental health and never asked me how i feel, so i don’t think i can talk about this to a person who doesn’t even try to understand me. i kind of gave up on fixing things with my brother after he said that to my mother and never spoke to me about it, i tried my best to fix things with him but i don’t think i ever will. thank you so much for understanding me, it made me feel better. ❤️
