trigger warning-dysfunctional family issues
I am moving out in a few months for college. My parents never want to spend time with me. They're always so busy with themselves and they never make time for me. I just feel like we are three strangers living under one roof and that isn't a family is it? My father is always on his laptop searching random useless information. Whenever I ask him to talk to me he just says "What should I say, I have nothing to say" It really really hurts alot. They will always make time to scold me and invalidate my feelings but will never spend family time with me. Is there anything I can do to stop this?

I imagine it hurts a lot that your family isn't supportive of you and your needs. Wanting to spend time with and talk to your family, have a relatioship with them, is a great thing. I'm sorry you are being brushed aside and invalidated when you try to reach out to them. Based on what I read, it sounds like the only time they communicate with you is when they notice you is in a negative way. It sounds like you are being treated unfairly. Is the feeling of being strangers under the same roof a recent occurance or has theis been going on for a long time? How might your family react if you suggested an activity you could do together? Maybe going to the movie theatre, playing a board game, or a hike, for example. Are you taking time to be kind to yourself?
