I'm gonna start college next year and I have a problem. The thing is, one of my ex-best friends is going to be at the same program and class as me, so I know it's gonna feel so uncomfortable and weird. Before our friendship ended, I set some boundaries with her because she caused a lot of damage to me and then I blocked her everywhere. I don't know how to handle it and what I'm going to do there. If you have any advice about this situation, please let me know.

@practicalPark6702

I'm sorry you were mistreated but glad you set boundaries.

It will be awkward at first and maybe even strange but after you get over the first initial time of seeing her, it'll become less pressurised and more normal.

Try to not let possible scenarios of what could happen play on your mind, because these are fears and not facts and most of them won't ever become a reality !

You deserve to enjoy your time and studies!

Hello,

Coming from someone who just ended a friendship with two people, I definitely understand that stress and worry. I am still in the frustration phase so that fuels my worry and anxiety of seeing them in a good way. However, I totally understand not wanting to reopen that wound that just healed. If it ended badly I’m going to be honest, yes it’s going to be hard because some people can be really petty, but honestly over time it will get easier. I ended an 8 year friendship right after graduating high school, probably not in the best of ways, but fast forward two years, we are able to talk to each other in a civil manner and we even talked about catching up, most likely won’t happen, but still. What I’m trying to get at it, is that it’ll be okay.

It’s hard in the beginning imaging what they’re going to be thinking or what they’re going to say or even possibly do, but you need to focus on yourself and focus on why you stopped letting them in your life. If they’re a real person and decent they’ll understand. Yes there might be tension, but if anything, you just need to keep pushing. Keep building up your life. You’re going to be okay. I am open to messaging more on an individual level as this is my listening account, so feel free to message me if you still want to talk about it.

If this happened recently then yes it might be difficult, but after some time it will get better. You just need to be confident and go into it with the most positive attitude possible. If it happened a bit ago, it might make the interaction less awkward than you think. I haven’t seen the friend I don’t talk to much in over 3 years, I can’t even imagine what would happen if I saw her in-person…but I would go into it as if I’m meeting an old acquaintance and I’d be civil unless shown otherwise. Hope this helps!

I guess I should have specified that the 8 year friendship interaction I had after cutting ties was through texting!
