Deep connection in person, but feels like a stranger now. Help?
I need some perspective on a social situation that’s been on my mind. Recently, I spent an hour talking one-on-one with someone from my university. It wasn't just small talk; we dived deep into personal topics—habits, relationship dynamics, even noticed we had the same eye color. I felt a very strong, authentic connection.
However, when I later asked for their number to stay in touch, they declined, saying, 'We'll just see each other around in person.'
Today, I saw this person with a group of other friends. They were whispering and looking at something on a phone screen together, in a very private, secretive way. Even though I was right there, the screen was never shown to me, and I felt intentionally left out of that 'inner circle.'
It hurts because I feel like the deep connection we had during that one hour is being 'replaced' or overshadowed by others. I want to be part of that same level of intimacy they share with others. Am I overthinking this, or should I find a way to confront this feeling and ask what that 'secret' was about next time I see them? I just feel like I'm stuck in the 'interesting stranger' category while others get to be in the 'trusted friend' category.

I would just give it time, I understand you felt you had a deep connection but trust is built up over time and with many conversations 💙

Connecting with people is so difficult, there seem to be so many factors involved. I'm glad you enjoyed your initial chat.
I've had many over the years and sometimes unfortunately, I get more out of it than they do so it's a one-off..
And although I'm disappointed there won't be more. I try to appreciate the time spent together and how it tickled my brain and that I spoke my mind and made really good points and maybe with the next person, we will be more insync...
Try not to take it personally, we aren't going to mesh with everyone but there are people out there, that will adore us for who we are :)
