Reparing Friendships After Going Through Something Traumatic
I have been distant with my friends because I found out I was pregnant and I had a miscarriage however I don't want to tell them this. I'm afraid that 1 of them would tell their boyfriend and he'd tell someone else and everyone would know. It was a difficult time for me and I am still going through a hard time. Now I feel like I'm being ignored and I don't fit into my friend group anymore at university. I feel like my boyfriend is my only friend. What can I do to repair my friendship?
Hello there Gem1925! :) Im so sorry to hear this happened to you, that must have been a very sad time and i really appreciate you having the strength to open up about this here. I completely understand why you wouldn't want to share the news with your friends, that is only natural after what has happened and it is perfectly normal to be afraid about telling them. I totally get what you are going through- many other people have been in the same position as you have, and you are definitely not alone. It must have been really upsetting and stressful for you, as well as right now- your thoughts and feelings are so so valid! It sounds like you have drifted apart from your friends and are reluctant to share with them about your miscarriage. In any friendship, communication and setting boundaries is key. It's important to share the things we feel comfortable with, and any issues we have in our friendships/how we are feeling, in order to mantain a successful and healthy connection. However, it is also important to maintain a level of only sharing what you want to, and slowly breaking down the barriers of telling someone something which makes you anxious. That takes time, and you cant rush it!
I hope that you are doing well and that you are feeling okay right now <3
Hey Liv125, thank you so much for the kind words. Yes I have drifted apart from them. I found out I was a few weeks pregnant mid September and that I was losing my baby early October and she was just 7 weeks. During this time I just needed comfort so I spent most of my time with my boyfriend. I haven't fully recovered but everyday just seems a little bit easier. But thanks again :)
