how to take initiative in friendships

Hi guys,
I have found some new people with whom I get along well but unfortunately due to my old experiences I am unable to take the initiative to look for others myself. I need advice to allow myself to do this without feeling guilty or thinking that the other person doesn't care, even though these people do care. Being genuine, without putting pressure or being heavy.

Just be yourself!
Be honest!
Don't let other people or experiences ruin things for you now.
You deserve to have friendships.
Most of us have the same insecurities and we are just glad when someone else has the courage to speak out!
