@jesusredeemedme2425

(I just realized it said "before the 90s". Just mentally translate that to "the days of dial-up and beepers" lol)

Easily. I know how to live without electricity if necessary...in fact I might do just that for most of next year, depending on how things go.

@jesusredeemedme2425 Fear of the dark, fear of men...I hope there isn't a 3rd phobia. At that point you've got a list!

@jesusredeemedme2425 I've never owned a smart phone, I had a cell phone in the 90s a simple one, but back then I thought to myself that "these new cell phones seem like a crutch" and I'm glad I stuck with that notion. I've probably saved $10,000's of dollars on phone plans/costs.

@jesusredeemedme2425

I guess, I wouldn't know. I have a car, I drive, and with agoraphobia its not like I'll ever need an uber lol.

Those were the good days, before the social pressure of having to be immediately available to everyone 24/7. Back then, people called your house and left a message on your answering machine, not knowing if you weren’t home or you just didn’t feel like talking to them. And it was ok. And caller ID was still a thing. They went about their lives and waited for you to call back. Now, if you don’t answer, people get mad like you have to have your cell phone attached to your hip for their important text about how they’re bored and can’t stand quiet for 30 seconds without you entertaining them.

However, I do like having a camera handy. I like my gps, though I still have a paper map in my car for emergencies. 😁 And I like having Wikipedia to read about random questions that pop into my head without having to wait for the library to open. But I still go to the library and like real paper pages.

Overall I think modern technology has hurt people more than helped us. So yeah I’d prefer the technology pre-90s.

@jesusredeemedme2425

how funny - i was just thinking about this over the past week while watching videos of folks exploring abandoned places from this era like abandoned malls and shutdown fast food joints. as someone who grew up in the 90s and has been through the shift to fully utilizing technology, i'm really torn. those times were simpler and we spent so much more time in nature and appreciating the things we could have (CDs, games, rental places). but as a "weird" teen i was lonely. when i started meeting people online, a whole new world of opportunity to connect opened up to me. social media has been the biggest downside IMO bc that is what has bred so much insecurity, negativity, FOMO, etc. the internet when used properly is a life-changer but now we spend too much time on our smartphones. it's tough!
